A 'Devil Wears Prada' Sequel Is on the Way -- Here's What We Know So Far
Emell Adolphus READ TIME: 2 MIN.
It's official: The Devil (decked in Prada) is returning for a sequel to the 2006 hit "The Devil Wears Prada."
That's right, Meryl Streep has reportedly signed on to reprise her role as the frosty editrix Miranda Priestly, but she will reportedly be plotting to stay on top in a different world, reported Variety.
Priestly will reportedly have to face off against her former assistant, Emily (played by Emily Blunt), with hopes of scoring some advertising dollars from a luxury firm she helms.
The team that made the original film a success is reportedly returning, including the original film's screenwriter Aline Brosh McKenna, who is in talks to do the writing.
However, questions still remain as to whether Anne Hathaway will reprise her role as Andrea Sachs, who left on fairly good terms with Emily and Miranda at the end of the last film. But surely there is a way to work her back in the equation.
Blunt and Hathaway certainly have not lost their chemistry as co-stars, appearing on stage and in interviews multiple times and referencing their "The Devil Wears Prada" family.
In their Actors on Actors Variety interview, Blunt described the film process as a "joy bomb of a time."
"I don't know if any of us knew it was going to become what it did. It's quoted to me every week," said Blunt. "It will be the movie that changed my life."
It appears to be the season of "The Devil Wears Prada." Vanessa Williams is preparing to helm a stage musical version of the film opening on London's West End in October. The musical has a classy pedigree with music by Elton John, lyrics by Shaina Taub, book by Kate Wetherhead and direction & choreography by 3-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell.
