Jonathan Groff guest starred on the latest episode of "Doctor Who" and shared a snog with current Doctor Ncuti Gatwa, sending fans of the venerable sci-fi series into ecstatic orbit, UK newspaper the Daily Mail reported.

"Fans praised the 'electrifying chemistry'" between the two actors, the Mail noted, and they expressed their excitement over the moment.

In its spoiler-filled recap, the Mail shared plot details for the episode, the sixth of the current season. The adventure involves a bounty hunter, shape-shifting aliens, and a string of murders. A romantic same-sex declaration played a pivotal part in resolving the mystery, with a poignant kiss sealing the deal.

Though the kiss was reported as the first same-sex kiss on the series, fans were quick to point out that this was a mischaracterization.

Others, though, took note that the episode was still groundbreaking.

There were some jibes amidst the celebratory posts:

Gatwa's take on the role is in itself historic. As Vulture said, "Over the course of the series's over 60 year run, 14 actors have taken on the role of the shape-shifting Doctor, but Gatwa is the first to identify as queer, and the first Black actor to play the role for a full season."

The current season saw a guest spot by American drag icon, Broadway star, and "RuPaul's Drag Race" champion Jinkx Monsoon, who played a villainous role that also thrilled fans.
